Ansel Foxley
About
Ansel Foxley is a Colorado-based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter known for his expressive playing and versatility across roots, rock, bluegrass, and Americana. He brings a distinctive voice to every project he’s part of, blending dobro, electric guitar, vocals, and string work with confidence and musical nuance. Ansel leads his own trio, Ansel and the Brain Tattoos, where his songwriting sits at the center of a high-energy acoustic ensemble that leans into bluegrass-informed grooves and tight, melodic interplay. He is also a long-standing member of the Matt Skinner Band, a Fort Collins alt-country/roots-rock group. With Matt Skinner on vocals and guitar, Ansel adds electric and acoustic dobro textures that deepen the band’s sound and complement its melodic drive. Over the years, he has worked with a wide range of Northern Colorado musicians and ensembles. In earlier years he played with Lonesome Traveler band, and Lienage Bluegrass, helping shape his acoustic roots and improvisational instincts. He has contributed to shows and recordings with acts such as Sugar Britches and made guest appearances with numerous other local groups, becoming a familiar and trusted collaborator in the region’s music community. Ansel’s playing is marked by fluidity and emotional depth. Whether anchoring a groove, adding a haunting slide line, or stepping forward with lyrical or INSANE hyper-rhythmic solos, he’s earned respect from fellow musicians and audiences alike for his range and musicality.
